Lucinda Price gets enrolled in the Sword & Cross boarding school in Savannah, Georgia after an accident that happened involving her burning someone. There she meets new friends, including Daniel Grigori who immediately catches her eye with his aloofness. Little did she know that these new people she met had a lot of secrets, and she was about to be in the middle of it all.
Cover Impressions: The cover was actually what drew me into the book in the first place. It was like a siren. As soon as I saw it in the bookstore, I was immediately lured and I just had to buy it. It's beautiful. Then again, I'm kind of a sucker for these "girl in a dress" types of covers.
Thoughts: I had no idea that the inside would be so horrid. Daniel and Luce fell in love in exactly two days, and I honestly don't even know why she fell in love with him in the first place. I mean, come on. The moment they locked eyes with each other, Daniel flipped her off.
He flipped. Her. Off.
I mean, ugh. What the hell? What kind of woman that has self respect would still fall madly in love for a guy who flipped her off? If I could somehow rewrite this book, I would have edited that part to make it so that Luce flipped him off right back. Or maybe just slapped the hell out of that godly, angelic face of his.
And then Luce started to get downright disturbing, because she went on to full on stalk him. This goes on for the rest of the book. She became so obsessed with everything Daniel Grigori that it seriously creeped me out. I don't remember any details, since I read this book several months ago, but all I know is that it did make me want to pull my hair out. Daniel went out of his way to actually tell Luce to leave him alone, but she didn't listen.
I just wanted to yank her out of those pages and snap her neck. Honestly.
I just wanted to yank her out of those pages and snap her neck. Honestly.
Their so called "love" just made no sense, because it's like their only reason that they love each other is simply because they've always been reincarnated and "destined" to be lovers. That's really all there is. Because the only good trait Daniel has other than having godly sexiness is . . .
Um . . .
Nope. Can't think of anything.
Basically he was a total asshat, and Luce was stupid for not being able to see that. I was actually rooting for someone else (Cam), who was actually sweet and kind to her. Well, until later in the story, when he's revealed to be the villain. Sigh. I wasn't even surprised.
I hated every single character in this book besides Cam, who I didn't exactly hate but didn't exactly like either. And also besides Penn. Ugh, you just had to (SPOILER ALERT) kill her off, didn't you, Lauren Kate? :/ She was probably the only character that I actually liked.
This book reminds me of another book I truly hate. Evermore by Alyson Noel. There's so many similarities with those two books, but I could honestly say that this one was a little bit more tolerable than the other, which was without a doubt the worst book I've ever read.
Overall, I highly recommend you stay away from this book. Please don't let the cover fool you. The inside is not nearly as pretty.

Yaa! I like Penn too! Among all the characters! But Lauren Kate killed her off the story. </3
