Author: Jay Kristoff
Publisher: Thomas Dunne Books
Series: The Lotus War, #1
Release Date: September 18th, 2012
Pages: 336 (Hardcover)

A DYING LAND. The Shima Imperium verges on the brink of environmental collapse; an island nation once rich in tradition and myth, now decimated by clockwork industrialization and the machine-worshipers of the Lotus Guild. The skies are red as blood, the land is choked with toxic pollution, and the great spirit animals that once roamed its wilds have departed forever. AN IMPOSSIBLE QUEST. The hunters of Shima's imperial court are charged by their Shōgun to capture a thunder tiger – a legendary creature, half-eagle, half-tiger. But any fool knows the beasts have been extinct for more than a century, and the price of failing the Shōgun is death. A HIDDEN GIFT. Yukiko is a child of the Fox clan, possessed of a talent that if discovered, would see her executed by the Lotus Guild. Accompanying her father on the Shōgun’s hunt, she finds herself stranded: a young woman alone in Shima’s last wilderness, with only a furious, crippled thunder tiger for company. Even though she can hear his thoughts, even though she saved his life, all she knows for certain is he’d rather see her dead than help her. But together, the pair will form an indomitable friendship, and rise to challenge the might of an empire.

Imagine a modern spin on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein where a young couple's undying love and the grief of a father pushed beyond sanity could spell the destruction of them all. A string of suspicious deaths near a small Michigan town ends with a fall that claims the life of Emma Gentry's boyfriend, Daniel. Emma is broken, a hollow shell mechanically moving through her days. She and Daniel had been made for each other, complete only when they were together. Now she restlessly wanders the town in the late Fall gloom, haunting the cemetery and its white-marbled tombs, feeling Daniel everywhere, his spectre in the moonlight and the fog. When she encounters newcomer Alex Franks, only son of a renowned widowed surgeon, she's intrigued despite herself. He's an enigma, melting into shadows, preferring to keep to himself. But he is as drawn to her as she is to him. He is strangely... familiar. From the way he knows how to open her locker when it sticks, to the nickname she shared only with Daniel, even his hazel eyes with brown flecks are just like Daniel's. The closer they become, though, the more something inside her screams there's something very wrong with Alex Franks. And when Emma stumbles across a grotesque and terrifying menagerie of mangled but living animals within the walls of the Franks' estate, creatures she surely knows must have died from their injuries, she knows.

Are You Happy Now?

Well done. Someone's life is now officially threatened because of you. You did it.

So I'm going to ask you. Are you happy now? This was what you wanted, wasn't it? Or did you honestly think that your actions wouldn't bring any harm to anyone?

I don't need to explain any further. I'm sure most of you reading this already know what I'm talking about. If, however, you don't, click here.

At first this kind of thing was just eye-roll worthy. Then it became annoying and infuriating.

Now it's just cruel and terrifying.

But I'm just going to ask this. Are you happy now?

That's all I'm gonna say.

I'm Back!

Hey guys! :D At long last, I'm back! After a full week of some much-needed vacationing, I guess you could say I'm back to business. Lol.

I had a really fun vacation, and I managed to read a few books during that time as well. But to be honest I haven't had the chance to come up with reviews for any of them. ._. Reviews will be coming shortly, though, so don't worry. I might post a Cover Reveals post after this.

But yeah. The vacation was fun, but I'm glad to be back! I see now that my follower count has increased and I thank you guys so much. :D

Brief Hiatus

Hey guys. So by tomorrow I'll be going out of town with my family and I'm afraid I won't be posting anything the whole trip. :c I use a desktop computer and don't own a laptop. I'll still be online, though, since I can use my iPhone or borrow my dad's iPad, but I've tried using those to post stuff on here and it really sucked. Very limited options.

So during the whole trip─which will likely be more than a week, I'm still not sure─I'll only be on Goodreads and Twitter, and I probably will be doing a lot more reading as well. Expect to see a lot of reviews when I return. :D I'll see you guys soon!
